Smoking, Alcohol, Drug and Process Addictions
At London Laser we believe that smoking and drug and alcohol addictions are life threatening diseases and that it is unethical and immoral for poorly or untrained persons to be offering these services. We are not affiliated with any laser manufacturer and we do not sell any equipment. Our only goal is to educate.
This course deals with the use of low level laser to stimulate acupuncture points as well as behaviour modification. The strength of the laser is its ability to eliminate the need that addicts feel for a high. By removing the craving for the drug we can eliminate the need to indulge in compulsive behaviours. What sets our exclusive London Laser™ treatment program apart from other laser centres is the intensive behavioural modification component of our program. While a medical designation is not required, a background in the social sciences would be helpful.
At London Laser we have been helping people quit smoking and deal with quitting drugs and alcohol since 2003 and have been training laser specialists since 2005.We are the only program offering comprehensive training not just in laser treatment but also the psychology of the habit.
Classroom (Didactic) Education
This program reviews the science of lasers, the mechanisms of Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT), tobacco addiction, smoking epidemiology, smoking side effects, The pros and cons of smoking and quitting, stages of smoking, pharmacologic tools, non-pharmacologic cessation tools, dealing with relapse, laser methods, indications and contraindications, client consultation pre and post laser therapy. The students will go through hands-on training with qualified instructors, and will obtain the benefits of learning with numerous principles, technical laser procedures for smoking cessation to progress their theoretical and experimental learning knowledge.
The theory section of this course delves into the understanding of addiction and cognitive behaviour. We discuss the mechanisms of laser acupuncture as method to manage the withdrawal from different drugs including nicotine, alcohol, opiates as well as aiding in changing process addictions.
Hands-On Training
You will be given the opportunity to perform a laser acupuncture theory session using the exclusive London Laser™ quit smoking program. The students will go through hands-on training with qualified instructors and will obtain the benefits of learning with technical laser procedures for smoking cessation to progress their theoretical knowledge.
Course Objectives
At the end of this course the student will be able to:
- Define addiction.
- Distinguish addictions from habits, and identify the signs of addiction.
- Discuss the addictive process, the physiology of addiction, and the biopsychosocial model of addiction.
- Understand cognitive behaviour approaches to addiction.
- Understand the use of acupuncture protocols in the treatment of addiction
- Perform a laser acupuncture procedure for smoking cessation, drug and alcohol abuse, process addictions.
