What is the Endocrine System?
Before we can help clients quit smoking, lose weight or manage stress we have to understand the physiological response of the body.
The endocrine system is a network of glands in your body that make the hormones that help cells talk to each other. They’re responsible for almost every cell, organ, and function in your body.
If your endocrine system isn’t healthy, you might have problems developing during puberty, getting pregnant, or managing stress. You also might gain weight easily, have weak bones, or lack energy because too much sugar stays in your blood instead of moving into your cells where it’s needed for energy.
This course forms the foundation for understanding the integral role hormones play in helping your clients deal with stress and anxiety, addictions, weight loss and more.
The endocrine system is made up of the pituitary gland, thyroid gland, parathyroid glands, adrenal glands, pancreas, ovaries (in females) and testicles (in males). Some of the factors that affect endocrine organs include aging, certain diseases and conditions, stress, the environment, and genetics.
